Internet Marketing Myths, Fallacies, and Fairytales

Before you even begin hopping onto the Internet marketing e-bandwagon, you must be aware of its myths, fallacies, and fairytales. Yes, Internet marketing is fascinating, it has incredible rags-to-riches fables, and you are just dying to get a slice of the pie. But before you do so, take a breather. Maybe these tips will help save the shirt on your back one rainy day.

Myth #1: Internet Marketing is a Piece of Cake

If it were that easy, everyone and their girlfriend would be e-millionaires by now. However, in comparison to traditional brick-and mortar businesses with huge overheads like rent, salaries, etc, it is certainly more lucrative. Overheads are minimal and affiliate marketing helps you quickly start churning some decent profits.

Myth #2: Everyone Makes Money Online

Can everyone fly an airplane? You might be willing to learn how to fly it, you may even able to fly it some day, however, most people won't even make the initial effort to learn how to fly the plane. The same logic applies to making money online. Everyone knows that they can make a lot of money online but only a few pursue that dream with hard work, determination, and a bit of luck.

Myth #3: Internet Marketing = Get Rich Quick

The only way to get rich quick on the Net is to win a lottery. Banish the idea, get rid of it completely, and erase it from your memory banks! Start building a genuine online business with real equity, sincerity, and dedication, and do it consistently over a period of time. I guarantee that you will get rich if you follow my advice. The good news is that Internet Marketing is less risky than a traditional business and also, requires relatively lesser time to establish and grow.

Myth #4: It's Zero Cost

There is no such thing as a free lunch. Everything costs money, from your Internet access costs, to the cost of purchasing a PC, to fees for the affiliation membership to a website, enrolment for an Internet marketing plan, etc. Costs crop up everywhere. However, start-up costs are relatively more reasonable here than in traditional businesses.

Myth #5: It's Too Late to Start Now

It is never too late to start anything, if you know your target market, that is. Dont even attempt to become a Google or a Johnny-come-lately MSN. You might just fail before you even begin. Think of niche marketing as a solution to dead-end low-paying jobs or loss-making companies you owned.

Myth #6: Built It, and It Will Sell

This is opposite of the previous myth. Either its too late to start or its very easy to do just that. This is bunkum. This myth promotes the fallacy that if you hobble together any old site, people will flock to it. Why should they? Will people pay good money to buy a bullock cart, if you happen to throw it all together and create one? Similarly for the Internet. If you have planned a site, and you have designed a good business plan, implemented it effectively, then the buyers will come to you. And not a moment before that.

Myth #7: Only Tech Gurus Make it Big

Bill Gates isnt one. And anyways, tech has advanced so rapidly, that you can find sophisticated tools and software sometimes even for free that help you do everything with the click of a button. For example, earlier HTML required hours of coding and months of training. Now, with the help of What You See Is What You get (WYSIWYG) editors, templates, tutorials, etc even a granny can create her own website in minutes.

Myth #8: Its all Just Hype

Well, there is no smoke without fire. People arent crazy to chuck up secure jobs to venture into online marketing. Its not all just hype in the same way its not just a piece of cake. Between these 2 extremes lies a viable, intelligent, working system that will help you achieve great success provided you are ready to work hard and work smart.

The Quintessential Rug Appraiser

Introduction

Rugs are a part of every home. Whether they be fine oriental rugs or simpler area rugs, people want to know about their rugs so that they can make informed decisions. It is therefore imperative to know the attributes of a competent rug appraiser and a comprehensive rug appraisal.

Overview

Rugs have long been considered as more than just something to cover the floor with. In fact some rugs are so painstakingly and exquisitely made; they are more a work of art rather than a mere floor covering. Rugs differ widely in their quality, looks, construction, price and country of origin. Doing an unqualified comparison of rugs is as baseless as trying to compare apples and oranges. A proper evaluation of a rug that you own or intend owning is best done through a professional, qualified rug appraiser, who will assess and evaluate your rug based on certain approved criteria.

Why you need to get your rug appraised

A rug appraisal done by a professional rug appraiser helps you ascertain the rugs correct value. This is important if you are planning on putting down a lot of money to purchase an expensive rug or if you are planning on selling or insuring an expensive rug that you own. Rugs get chewed up by puppies and are prone to all kinds of spills, tears and burns. An appraisal helps you estimate the damage done as well as the amount you need to claim from insurance for repair and restoration.

Rug appraisal is also done for a whole host of other reasons including:

Estate and tax planning
Asset management
Gift tax documentation
Collateral loan agreements
Probate and succession
Charitable contributions

How a rug is appraised

Ever tried counting the knots-per-square-inch on your rug yourself? Dont!!! It could tie you up in knots and leave you completely befuddled and cross-eyed. Whats more, while knots-per-square-inch is one of the important factors in any rug appraisal, it certainly isnt the only factor.

Rug appraisal is a highly specialized undertaking that requires considerable skill and an experienced eye. The criteria for rug appraisals include:

Country of origin
Knots per square inch
Quality and type of pile, warp and weft
Sheen or patina of the rug
Intricacy of design
Type of dye
Dimensions of the rug
Rug repair history
Condition of the rug at the time of appraisal

What an appraisal certificate includes

A Certificate of Authenticity should accompany every professional rug appraisal, which states the details of the rug including its estimated age, country of origin, dye type, uniqueness of pattern and repair history and present condition. This certificate should be signed by the rug appraiser , who will also mention the market value of the rug based on additional factors such as rarity, uniqueness and availability. Keep a picture of every appraised rug as additional before and after proof in case of any eventuality.

It typically takes a brief time to appraise the rug, after which the certified appraisal document can either be handed over to you personally or mailed to you.

How to choose a rug appraiser?

Rug appraisal is best done by someone who deals with rugs on a regular basis. This gives the rug appraiser a constant hands-on experience, which enhances his ability to make a preliminary evaluation of the rug just by sight and feel. A rug appraiser who is in the business of buying and selling rugs is in constant touch with current market conditions and is in a better position to give you an accurate market evaluation of your rug. This can come in very handy if you own an expensive rug, which you want to sell. The rug appraiser can advice you as to how much you can expect to get for it in the prevailing market conditions. He could also give you previous advice on whether it would be better to hold on to the rug and perhaps sell it at a later date.

Funerals - Hindu Funerals

Hindus believe that life and death are an eternal circle. After life comes death, then reincarnation and so on, until, in some circumstances the soul can be set free from that eternal circle. One such circumstance, is the person dying in or near the holy city of Varanasi in North East India, where the funeral ghats are beside the sacred River Ganges.

Hindus also believe that cremation allows the spirit to move on to its next incarnation and therefore nearer to heaven. Thus, although death is a sad event to Hindus, the emphasis is more on the soul's onward journey and that is celebrated. The flames of the funeral pyre are said to represent Brahama, the Hindu God of Creation.

After a death, the family of the deceased will meet as soon as possible to pray by the body. The body will not be touched if possible, as a corpse is considered to be unclean.

The deceased will be normally be dressed in white (a wife pre-deceasing her husband is dressed in her red bridal outfit) and will be placed on a bier and decorated with flowers and sandalwood.

The funeral service will be conducted by a priest and lead by the eldest son or nearest male relative of the deceased, who will light the fire and will circle the pyre praying for the soul of the dead person. The exact order of service may vary depending on location and family traditions. The ashes are often sprinkled on water and some families go to the River Ganges to do this to ensure the most auspicious passage to the next life.

The house of the deceased will be cleansed and purified by a priest using spices and incense and the 13 days of mourning will begin. During this time, there will often be a picture of the deceased on display, garlanded with flowers and friends will come to the house to offer their condolences. Mourners will wear white. On the 13th day, the ceremony of Kria is performed, which involves the offering of rice balls and milk in thanksgiving for the life of the deceased, after which, life for the family returns to normal.

One year after the death and sometimes every year thereafter, Shraddah takes place, where the family offer food to the poor and needy in memory of the deceased.

Six Basic Needs of Children, Adolescents and Adults

It doesnt matter what stage of life you are in, everyone has the same basic needs. These needs are physical, emotional, social, intellectual, spiritual, and creative. When all of these needs are satisfied, youll discover that your life is brimming with joy and good feelings. Youll find your self-esteem at its highest peak whenever you are fulfilled within your daily life and activities.

Physical Needs: These needs are the basics. The need for air, water, sleep, exercise, and sex.

Emotional Needs: This is the need for praise, love, trust, security, feeling OK inside, and self-fulfilled.

Social Needs: This is the need for companionship and friendship. This is usually gained from a peer group.

Intellectual Needs: This is the need for challenging thoughts, reading, learning something new, and mind stimulation.

Spiritual Needs: This is the quiet need inside that wants to know and believe in a higher spiritual power than ourselves. This need increases our awareness and sensitivity to the greater aspects of life.

Creative Needs: This is the need to express yourself in any manner you desire. This can include the arts, dancing, acting, and writing - almost anything that allows you to feel imaginative and inspired.

All of the above needs are usually a part of every humans life. All of us want to have these needs met in life. Having these needs met increases our enjoyment of living and creates a healthy body and soul. So how do parents fulfill these needs in their growing children? The first way is to become aware that the needs of a child are the same as yours. Being empathetic to your child at all times creates a bond that nurtures the needs of your child. For example, whenever your child wants to create or make something, allow your attention to center on your child and give him whatever you think will help to inspire your childs creativity.

My children loved to create drawings on large pieces of paper. I helped them do this by supplying them with the all the paper, crayons, paint, brushes, etc. necessary to stimulate their minds. Then I let them go to it! It was exciting to watch my child create a masterpiece of their imagination. Their artwork was sweet, beautiful and full of ingenuity. I then posted the artwork all around the house to show to their siblings and guests. As a parent, it was my goal to communicate with my child that I truly understood and valued his desires and feelings to be creative. I empowered my child to become all that he can be at that moment. This process immediately shows your child that his opinions and thoughts are valued.

By empowering your child, you are allowing your child to take ownership of their feelings, take responsibility for their behavior, make decisions that help them grow, follow through with commitments and most importantly, to become aware of the needs and feelings of others. You are giving your child the chance to experience success and understand his own uniqueness. Its rewarding for a child, adolescent and adult to have recognition and respect. By empowering yourself, as well as your child, you are fostering basic needs that truly make you glow inside and out.

At different times in our lives, we are capable of doing certain things. Stay tuned to where your childs capabilities are during his childhood and supply the above needs according to his stage in life. In fact, developmental stages continue right into old age. When a childs needs are met, his discomforts and fears are quickly removed and he finds that his life is truly a safe and fun place to be. This feeling leads to a child that learns to trust his environment and each successive stage of development.

Know that meeting these six needs in your childs life is not hard to do at any stage. Getting involved in your childs exploration of his life doesnt take money, but it does take thoughtfulness and time. Providing these needs throughout your childs lifetime allows your child to go through his stages of life with a healthy regard for himself and for society. It encourages your childs autonomy and capacity to do more with is his lifetime. Who can ask for more?

Paint Your House in Dollars

We all know how color can affect us without our knowing. Red flares us up, cerulean blue calms, while yellow is contagiously happy. People in the real estate business as a matter of fact use this knowledge not just to up the value of properties, but to convince their buyers to close the deal as well.

Repainting is the easiest and often cheapest way to renovate your house. And it sure is fun. However, don't get carried away with the whole painting business by buying gallons of paint in unpronounceable colors. "Blazing Avocado" or "Magenta Surprise" may initially seem like exciting colors to choose, but keep in mind that you will have to put up with them for a long time and you may not seem so excited after all by then. It's wise then to stick with color schemes that are classic and safe but elegant, and which won't clash with the neighborhood. You can never go wrong with white, cream, pale blue, and other subdued tones. If prospective buyers feel soothed by your house's color, then it's more likely that they'll be in a buying mood.

Browse books about home design to have an idea of just how colors and their combination can give a dramatic effect to your house. The basics, of course, are: Light colors make a room seem large while dark ones make it small. Reds and oranges are warm, while blues and greens are cool. As much as possible, strive for harmony when choosing a color scheme; although don't let us stop you from experimenting. That is, as long as you know the effect you want to achieve.

So do your homework. Dont tire looking at swatches of colors and combining them. Make friends with your local hardware store. Invest on a good set of brushes and rollers, buy only quality paint, and have fun coloring! In the end, it all pays, and youll be glad you did!

The Real Estate Moms Car Organizing your Business on the Road

As a real estate professional, you already know your car is an extension of your business. Its important to reflect this in the organization of your vehicle. You dont want a client to see popsicle wrappers and other miscellaneous kid stuff in the backseat of your car. The impression you leave with your clients is vital. Nothing spells disaster faster for the real estate mom than to be perceived as unprofessional. Yes, life is busy, and yes, our cars often show that. However, taking the time to create the proper environment in your car is important.

While it can be difficult to do, it is a necessity. After all, our cars are an extension of ourselves and our lives. From business to running to the grocery store to stopping at McDonalds after picking the kids up, creating boundaries for yourself AND for your children are important. Often, were as much to blame for a messy car as our children are, so its time to change habits.

The first rule for the real estate moms car is

Keeping It Clean

If the car you do business in is messy to begin with, consider having it detailed at a professional car cleaning establishment to start. Not only easier to begin with, but less stress for you. Plus, theyll likely do a far better job overall because that is their business.

If you prefer to tackle it yourself, be sure to vacuum up any and all stray crumbs, spot wipe any stains you see, and use a deodorizer to get rid of any clinging smells. When youre done, the end result should be a sparkling clean car inside and out.

Now all you have to do is keep it that way! Sounds simple, but lets face it at the end of a busy day, the last thing we want to do is clean anything, especially our car. Here are some hints to get you on the road of maintaining a professional appearance in your car:

Set Rules. What comes into the car must go out of the car. This includes garbage, backpacks, sports equipment, books, etc. Keep a few extra garbage bags in your trunk easy to pile a bunch of stuff into a bag to carry into the house, or into the garbage, in one haul.

Use the Trunk. Anything that isnt needed in the car itself put in the trunk. From real estate signs to basket balls, hide them away where your clients cant see them.

Keep it Professional. From simplicities to keeping the floor mats, cup holders, and dash wiped clean of dust and debris; to where you store your briefcase (in the backseat, not in the front), keep your vehicle professional in appearance. Purchase a small container of disposable cleaning wipes to keep in your glove box for quick clean-ups during the week. Also, you may want to reconsider personal accessories such as window stickers, childrens pictures, and fuzzy dice hanging from your rearview mirror.

Keep Spare Change Handy. Keep some extra quarters in your glove box for impromptu visits through the local car wash. Plan on regular visits, regardless, to keep the car shiny and clean.

Instill the No Eat Rule. Unless youre going on a long car trip, it really doesnt make any sense to ever eat in the car. Not only messy, but also potentially dangerous. Make sure meals and snacks are dealt with BEFORE getting into the car.

Consider some extras you can keep on hand to assist you in your business day. From paperwork to an extra change of clothes in the trunk, think about what may happen and be prepared for those necessities.

In todays crazy rush to everything lifestyle, our cars can easily become a disaster area as we move from one event to another. Take the time to organize the clutter to give your clients the best impression of you possible. After all, their reflection on you could mean more or less business from their associates.

League Two Betting Review

Carlisle returned to the top of League Two after thumping basement club Rushden & Diamonds 5-0 at Brunton Park. Derek Holmes put the Cumbrians ahead after 42 seconds and it was one-way traffic thereafter with two goals each from Karl Hawley and Simon Hackney. Paul Simpsons side were 8/15 favourites on the day and 4/1 to win the division outright.

Second placed Wycombe were held to a 1-1 draw at Boston. Julian Joachim gave the home side a 56th minute lead but Kevin Betsy levelled matters 15 minutes later. This was John Gormans sides seventeenth draw of the season, something noted by shrewd punters backing at 9/4.

Veteran Ian Taylors goal nine minutes from time propelled 8/15 Northampton into the third automatic promotion spot with a victory against Torquay United on Friday night.

Fifth placed Leyton Orient kept up their promotion dreams and plunged Chester into further relegation trouble with a 2-0 win. A Matthew Lockwood penalty 10 minutes before the break and Paul Connor after 72 minutes secured a 13/10 win.

Play-off chasing Peterborough chalked up their fourth win in five matches with a 2-1 victory at Notts County. Danny Crow and James Quinn put the 9/5 Posh in the driving seat before Eugene Dadi netted a late penalty for the Magpies.

Wrexham looked set to earn victory at 9/5 after on-loan Blackburn striker gave them a 2-0 lead at Mansfield, only for Richie Barker to hit back with two goals in three minutes to secure a point at Field Mill.

Stockport kept their heads above water after coming from two goals behind to draw 2-2 at Bristol Rovers. Two goals from Richard Walker looked enough for an 8/11 home win, but the Hatters fought back through Adam Le Fondre and a Mark Hughes equaliser two minutes from time.

NFL Draft Offers Gems for Fantasy Football Players

Fantasy football players rarely pay much attention to National Football League rookies, during their fantasy football drafts. Rookies, you see, are not usually worth much to fantasy teams. It takes most rookies a year or two or in many cases even three or four to get fully acclimated to the NFL. Consequently, competitive fantasy football people usually steer clear of them.

This year may be different. More NFL rookies will likely appear on fantasy rosters than in the past decade, because this draft is rich with impact players. Thats right, rookies that can actually play this year and contribute to fantasy football rosters some even as starters. I see at least seven players taken in the first round of the NFLs draft that can start on fantasy teams, depending on how many teams are in your league. Obviously, smaller leagues (8 and 10 team leagues) will be too rich with veteran talent to have rookies as starters. Following is an assessment of these players and others to keep an eye on as you prepare for your fantasy draft. Notice the QBs are left out, as they wont contribute much, even if they start.

The seven NFL first-rounders to target are: Ronnie Brown, Braylon Edwards, Cedric Benson, Carnell Williams, Troy Williamson, Mike Williams and Mark Clayton. Brown, Benson and Williams are potential starters in any fantasy league. In one of the best running back classes in recent memory, these guys will enter their rookie campaigns as feature backs for Miami, Chicago and Tampa Bay, respectively. These teams have proven that with the right guy toting the mail, they all can produce fantasy stars.

Although not the best player, Benson is probably the best pick of all the rookies, in terms of fantasy football value. He is a no-brainer in basic scoring leagues. Hell be the starter from day one, and some experts have called him the best goal line runner ever to come out of college. If healthy, Benson could easily rush for 12 or more TDs in his inaugural NFL season.

Edwards is an immediate starter for the Browns, and this guy is a true stud. Although he can start in some fantasy football leagues, youll want to get him later, as Cleveland is a team that hasnt shown much in recent years. Edwards is a steal, if you can get him in later rounds. Then, let him sit for a few weeks, and watch his production. The same goes for Williams, taken by Detroit, and Clayton, selected by Baltimore. Both of these receivers will likely start for their new teams, but a wait-and-see attitude is indicated, as both teams are in weak passing offenses, although the sky is the limit for the Lions who have selected a wideout with their first pick in each of the last three seasons.

Aside from these seven, there are several players taken after the first round of the NFL draft that are worth drafting on fantasy football teams. Most notably is J.J. Arrington, taken at number 12 in round two by Arizona. Dennis Green loves this guy and hinted on draft day that Arrington will be his feature back. This guy is a compact runner and has a nose for the end zone. A feature back on an improving Cardinals team could be a big scorer for fantasy teams.

The easiest steal in your fantasy football draft will be Ryan Moats, taken in the third round by Philadelphia. Moats, a smallish tailback from Louisiana Tech, could surprise for an Eagles team in need of a star at the position. Although hell likely be relegated to special teams and third-down use early on, watch for him to emerge, especially if someone gets hurt. He is a quick slashing runner and a real workhorse, despite his 5-8, 210-pound frame. An eye-popping senior season saw him log 288 carries for 1,774 yards and 18 touchdowns. His 1,890 all-purpose yards set a school record, as he proved he can catch the ball with nearly equal acumen. With a career average per carry of 6.4 and 28 TDs, Moats is definitely worth watching. Grab this hard worker in the late rounds of your draft, and wait for him to get his turn. If the stars align in Philadelphia, you might just get yourself the steal of your fantasy football draft.

Here are a few other notables you may want to watch for a late selection or a free-agency pickup, as the season moves ahead:

1Heath Miller, TE taken by Pittsburgh: Would be ranked higher, because hell probably start, but tight ends are always a big question mark. If you are in a fantasy league that requires you to take a tight end, Miller is a good one.

2Vernand Morency, RB selected by Houston: Watch for an injury to Domanick Davis and grab Morency the second it happens.

3Maurice Clarett, RB taken by Denver: They love him and would like to see him prove all of the critics wrong. Hell get a chance to play.

4Matt Jones, WR selected by Jacksonville: Many feel the former QB is the best athlete in the NFL draft. At 6-6 with 4-5 speed and great hands, who knows?

5Roddy White, WR taken by Atlanta in the first round. Very fast and underrated. The Falcons saw little from Michael Jenkins last season, so keep a close eye on White.

6Chris Henry, WR taken by Cincinnati. Very big and fast. Could be a factor around the goal line in three and four receiver sets.

7Reggie Brown, WR selected by Philadelphia. The Eagles have a few question marks at the position, not the least of which is the bizarre antics of Terrell Owens.

8Ciatrick Fason, RB taken by Minnesota. With running back being so unsettled, Fason could emerge as the starter. Watch this one very closely.

I'm Feeling Very Mortgage Inadequate

Right now I'm feeling very inadequate. You know! It's that feeling you get when you've just let someone down. As Mortgage Professionals we have all experienced it. I just couldn't help. Here's the whole agonizing story from the very beginning...

Last Summer, Canadian Kyle MacDonald, an unemployed writer, set off on a quest to turn one red paper clip into a house, by swapping it for items that were bigger or better.

Based on a game called Bigger and Better (I don't remember that one when I was a kid) that he played as a child, MacDonald decided he would use his creativity and the power of the internet to trade up from one item to another, starting only with one red paperclip, to ultimately trade for his goal...a house.

MacDonald set up a web blog to trade his one red paperclip on July 12th, 2005 and he made his first trade for a pen (in the shape of a fish) on July 14.Well, it took Kyle 14 internet trades, and exactly one year to move from the red paper clip to a house on Main Street in the tiny town of Kipling in Saskatchewan province, Canada - a place he has never been to before.

Kyle's initial trade swapped the paperclip for a pen in Vancouver, the pen became a doorknob, which was traded for a portable barbecue, then swapped for a generator, to become a full beer keg and neon Budweiser sign in New York. A snowmobile followed which was then traded for a trip to Yahn in the Canadian Rockies? He swapped that for a 1995 Ford Van which was then traded for a recording contract which became one year rent-free in Phoenix. An afternoon with Alice Cooper followed, then a snow globe, a Hollywood movie role in Donna on Demand for a two-storey, three-bedroom, 1920s farmhouse on the town's Main Street in rural Kipling.

Kyle's new home community, which is named after the famed British author and poet Rudyard Kipling and is home to New York Times list award-winning romance novelist Mary Balogh, seems like the ideal place to crank out his life's story, which is scheduled to hit store shelves next summer. He successfully parlayed this whole adventure into a book deal with Random House and a movie deal with DreamWorks.

You can go to Google maps and key in the address: 530 Main Street, Kipling Saskatchewan to view the property.

His book, to be published in four different languages, will contain new material about his bartering experience. He said he was approached by about 40 book publishers and 50 production companies who were interested in his story.

Again, I feel terrible that as a Mortgage Professional, I couldn't help Kyle secure a home mortgage. Of course, being unemployed didn't help much. To tell the truth, I really don't originate mortgages in Canada. Plus, all of my lenders had already reached their quota and all of their free mortgages had already been allocated.

Congratulations Kyle MacDonald on a job well done. Quite a return on investment...one red paperclip for a house. Only in America...well actually, North America!

Getting Started in Ebay Marketing

If you have ever read an article on eBay, you'll have discovered the type of income people earn - it isn't strange to find out about people earning thousands of dollars per month on eBay.

Next time you are surfing the eBay site, check out how many PowerSellers there are: you'll find quite a few. Now think about the fact every single one of one of them must be making at least $1,000 per month, as that's eBay's requirement for becoming a PowerSeller. Silver PowerSellers make at least $3,000 monthly, while Gold PowerSellers make more than $10,000, and the Platinum level is $25,000. The top level is Titanium PowerSeller, and to measure up you must make at least $150,000 in sales each month!

It's hard to believe that Ebay has been around for ten years. eBay started in September 1995, by a man named Pierre Omidyar, who was residing in San Jose, California. He envisioned his site - formerly known as 'AuctionWeb' - to be an internet mart, and composed the first code for it in one weekend. It was one of the first sites of its type on the planet. The name 'eBay' follows from the domain Omidyar applied to his internet site His company's name was Echo Bay, and the 'eBay AuctionWeb' was formerly just one part of Echo Bay's website at ebay.com. The first product ever traded on the site was Omidyar's defective laser pointer, which sold for $14 .

The web site rapidly became hugely popular, as vendors arrived to auction off all sorts of strange things and buyers actually purchased them. Relying on faith appeared to work out outstandingly well, and implied that the web site could just about be left alone to run itself. The internet site had been configured from the beginning to take in a small fee on every sale, and it was this revenue that Omidyar applied to finance AuctionWeb's expansion. The fees speedily totaled up to more than his salary at the time, so he resolved to quit his job and devote attention to the site full-time. It was at this point in time, in 1996, that he added the feedback capability, to let buyers and sellers rate one another and make purchasing and trading safer.

In 1997, Omidyar modified AuctionWeb's - and his company's - name to 'eBay', which is what people had been using to refer to the site for awhile. He started to spend a great deal of money on promotion, and had the eBay logo created. A milestone was reached in this year - the one-millionth item was sold (it was a miniature version of Big Bird from Sesame Street).

Then, in 1998 - the peak of the dot com company boom - eBay became big business, and the investment in Internet businesses at the time allowed it to bring in senior managers and business strategists, who took in public on the stock market.

It began to encourage people to trade more than only collectibles, and rapidly morphed into a huge site on which you could trade anything, big or little. Different from the other websites, though, eBay endured the final stage of the bonanza, and is still going strong nowadays.

1999 saw eBay go worldwide, unveiling sites in the UK, Australia and Germany. eBay purchased half.com, an Amazon-like internet retailer, in the year 2000 - the same year it inaugurated Buy it Now - and bought PayPal, an internet payment service, in 2002.

Pierre Omidyar has now cleared an estimated $3 billion from eBay, and still serves as Chairman of the Board. There are now literally millions of items bought and sold every day on eBay, all over the world. For every $100 spent online worldwide, it is estimated that $14 is spent on eBay - that's a lot of laser pointers.

The fact that these PowerSellers are around gives you some idea of the money possibilities on Ebay. Most of the power sellers never intended to even launch a commercial enterprise on eBay - they merely began trading a couple of items, and then continued. There are quite a lot of people whose full-time job is merchandising items on eBay, and some of them have been working at it for years now. Can you believe that? Once they've purchased the merchandise, everything else is basically pure profit for these people - they don't need to spend money on any business premises, employees, or anything else. There are multi-million dollar commercial enterprises earning less in genuine net income than eBay PowerSellers do.

Even if you do not want to resign from your line of work and really try for it, you can use all the same eBay to make a substantial supplemental income. You can package customer purchases during the week and bring them to the local post office for shipping each Saturday. There are few other things you could be doing with your free time that have anywhere close to that kind of money-making potential.

What's more, eBay could care less about who you are, where you reside, or if you are good-looking. Some PowerSellers are very old, or very young. Some live out in very rural areas where selling on eBay is one of the few options to agriculture or being very impoverished. eBay levels the playing field and removes the roadblocks to earning that the real world constantly erects. There's no job interview and no traveling back and forth involved - if you can post items on the site, you can make it happen!

Put it this way: if you know where to acquire something fairly inexpensively that you could sell, then you can sell it on eBay - and because you can always get discount rates for mass purchases at wholesale, that's not hard. Purchase a job lot of something in-demand inexpensively, sell it on eBay, and you are earning cash already, with no set-up expenses.

If you wish to try it out before you commit to really purchasing anything, then you can just sell unwanted objects that you've got sitting around in the home. Explore that closet full of items that you never use, and you'll in all likelihood find you've got a couple of hundred bucks' worth of stuff lying around in there!

This is the beauty of eBay: there is always someone who wants what you're selling, whatever it might be, and because they have come searching you out, you don't even need to do anything to get them to buy it.
